Since the civic insurrection began in Nicaragua in 2018, there has been a significant void in political communication between the regime of Daniel Ortega, the local political class, and the International Community. This scenario has generated tensions and difficulties in addressing the crisis in the Central American country.
In this regard, Ariel Montoya, a writer, journalist, and Nicaraguan liberal politician exiled in the United States, stated: "The lack of dialogue and understanding among the parties involved in Nicaragua has been evident over these two years. The situation has been exacerbated by the absence of smooth interaction between the government, the internal political opposition, and the international community."
Montoya emphasized the importance of restoring an effective communication channel to address the problems facing Nicaragua and seek consensus-based solutions. He also highlighted the need for the international community to become more actively and forcefully involved in seeking a peaceful and democratic solution for the country.
Amid this situation, the proposal from the internal political opposition in Nicaragua becomes relevant as a possible starting point to reactivate dialogue and promote a negotiation environment that allows overcoming the current crisis. The participation of various actors, including civil society and the international community, will be essential to advance towards a sustainable and beneficial solution for the Nicaraguan people.
